Print Story I need to vent a bit...

Paypal is really starting to piss me off.

Way back in the day, you know, the late 90's, I sold some junk on eBay. Not a lot, but enough to get a Paypal account.

But, after awhile, I stopped selling on eBay, and Half.com works with your credit card directly so I didn't need the PayPal account. It sat idle, until one day, about a year ago, I got an e-mail saying that my bank acount was being "deverified".

Okay, so, go to the account, reverify. But the reverify fails for some unknown reason. Okay, no biggie, I'm not using it anyway, right? Just delete the (bank) account altogether so no one can hack it. Remove the credit cards, too.

Year goes by, I want to buy some shareware. Guy accepts Paypal. Okay. Click on the "pay me" button. Fill out the credit card.

No go.

Why? Well, the card is associated with a Paypal account. You have to log in. Okay. Log in. Well, you don't have any bank accounts associated with your account, so you can't pay anybody.

WTF?

Try to add the credit card. Sorry, can't add the credit card. Try to add the bank account. Sorry, can't add the bank account. Please use this form. Except the special "form" says I can't use any bank accounts because I haven't added any. But I can't add without using the special form.

What the hell do I do now?

Only joking.  Fake your own death, get a sex change and start over.  It's probably easier in the long run.

It's a huge pain - very few shareware authors accept anything except paypal any more. I actually had a back log of 3-4 things I wanted to buy today...

When I was a shareware user, beer was ALWAYS accepted as legal tender for payment of shareware licensing.

Waaaaa? by Bob Abooey (3.00 / 0) #4 Mon Feb 23, 2004 at 02:41:09 AM EST
Why not start from scratch. Go to paypal and click on the "create new account" button and have at er. Of course you'll have to wait a few days for them to do all the verifying stuff, but at that point it's a go.

If this is stating the obvious then please to disregard.

Thank you.

Warmest regards,

Been there. Done that. by ObviousTroll (3.00 / 0) #7 Mon Feb 23, 2004 at 04:00:47 AM EST
(1) I deleted the account.
(2) I then tried to create an account with a different e-mail, but it won't let me add my accounts because they are already associated with the old account.

So, (3) recreate the account with the same e-mail. This works, but with the same problem I had before: sorry, your bank sucks and we don't like your credit cards either.

Buy from somewhere else by gpig (5.00 / 1) #5 Mon Feb 23, 2004 at 02:53:23 AM EST
if you can.

This isn't the first bad story I've heard about Paypal, I'm waiting for some better form of payment (that supports true micropayment) to come along.

That's why I haven't donated to HuSi yet, honest.

Do we have a problem? by ti dave (3.00 / 0) #8 Mon Feb 23, 2004 at 05:27:39 AM EST
If we do, then let's discuss it, like gentlemen.

Your comment was actually useful!
But you managed to make it look like a troll.
Hmmm.

You, sir, have pre-judged me. by ti dave (3.00 / 0) #11 Mon Feb 23, 2004 at 08:22:22 PM EST
For shame.

I find that the internet, besides being a vast compendium of disinformation, is a device which allows me to get into other people's heads and I have discovered that I enjoy that very much.

I bid you adieu.

I'm with ya by gazbo (5.00 / 1) #6 Mon Feb 23, 2004 at 03:51:11 AM EST
I forget what happened exactly, but it involved my CC expiring, and somehow this ended upt with me in a similar situation: a corrupted record about my CC, and no way to just create a new one as it already exists.

I'm 98% certain I could work it out, but I don't plan to try.  Sorry, if anyone wants donations then they're gonna have to find another way.

I wasn't too keen when I first signed up and they took $2 off me as a membership fee, that I didn't see displayed anywhere.  Bunch of user-unfriendly arseholes.
