Inside, my achievements.

This year I got married, gave a talk at the ACCU Spring Conference, had an article published in Overload, and fathered a second child.

What have you achieved?

What I accomplished by fluffy (2.00 / 0) #2 Fri Dec 31, 2004 at 02:26:09 PM EST
Failed to get a job, moved back in with my parents, got a job in my parents' city which turned into another Dr. Cecil scenario, stopped working at that job because the asshole never paid the staffing agency I was working through, failed to get a bunch of other jobs, randomly applied for a job at "undisclosed game company," got said job at UbiSoft, got my name into the credits of a Nintendo DS launch title, burned out just in time for a vacation, went back to work, got sorta-hooked on Second Life, burned out again just in time for another vacation, went back to NM to visit my parents, dreaded the inevitable return to work at the beginning of next year, and started coloring my parachute for an exit strategy.

Strictly speaking, I wouldn't count failing to get a job, or moving back in with your parents as achievements. A job at UbiSoft and a Nintendo DS launch title credit, on the other hand, are note-worthy. Well done.

The sales staff at GameCrazy couldn't explain it to me.

I'll do more research at another place that employs otaku.

'Cos it's probably the most original, interesting, and imaginative project you'll ever get to work on, games industry or otherwise.

Uh, you don't understand by fluffy (2.00 / 0) #29 Mon Jan 03, 2005 at 03:27:33 PM EST
A conversation game doesn't involve conversing with other people, it involves walking through a conversation tree to get one fictitious person to do something for another fictitious person, with the implication that your fictitious avatar will get sex in return.

I wasn't going to post this till the stroke of midnight, but I hit "Post" when I meant to hit "Spellcheck".

I may not be able to turn the clock back, but can you please fix that god-awful embarrassing spelling error in the intro.

Thanks,

I got my bike on the road by georgeha (4.00 / 1) #6 Fri Dec 31, 2004 at 02:47:33 PM EST
we got the last kid out of diapers, and I made and drank a lot of beer.

Oh yeah, I got a laptop, met Stacky, and drank my first Fat Tire, and some other stuff I can't mention.

Well done! How old is (s)he? We are going to be trying to get Dylan potty trained this year - he's three now - and I'm dreading it.

We've had good luck with "Once Upon a Potty" which comes in buy and girl varieties, though it may be an American thing only. It takes a while, though maybe you can be manipulative and explain it to be something that Dylan can do that Karl can't.

Fat Tire certainly had a reputation to live up to, and indeed, it was very tasty.

Stacky is very nice person, and we chatted shop and business trips.

... I got myself into university again.  I continued to manage to focus some of my energy in productive endeavor (work).  I kept in touch with friends.  I did not go insane.

Happy New Year, all!

Is fathering a child really an achievement?  I mean I could do that drunk ... and probably have.

Took the long way around.  I have this fear of getting kicked in the throat that prevents me from swimming in a tight pack.  If I could just do that, a 1:10 swim would come easier.

Never been kicked in the throat.

Solution: Don't swim with your head up. Waste of energy.

2004 was a pretty good year by tmoertel (4.00 / 1) #30 Mon Jan 03, 2005 at 03:38:08 PM EST
At first I didn't think I did much this year. But, after I thought about your question for a while, this was a pretty good year. Aside from business stuff (boring), here are some of the things I accomplished: (Whoops! The power went out, and my computer is running on the UPS now. I think I'll post now, just to be safe. Sorry about any spelling errors.)
