I played tennis yesterday. We had a good game of doubles for about two hours, completing three sets. Not too bad since I hadn't played for about a month. I even had my serve working properly for a few games!
Photos on the web
A couple of days ago I was looking at a website someone had posted to the aus.photo newsgroup. This site used Gallery to manage their photos. I've been after something like this for a while, but I never got around to setting it up. But their site inspired me, so I gave it a shot. It turned out to be really easy. The only thing I've found a bit tricky is getting my chosen skin to work properly. They seem to have reused the same CSS attributes for a few different things, and it made it a bit difficult to make some of the text legible.
In any case, the first set of photos I've setup for use with Gallery is here. Look, comment, and be merry.
Printing photos
I want to get some of my digital photos printed. I downloaded the software from Big W today, but the installation failed because it requires admin privileges, which we don't have at work. Obviously software engineers can't be trusted to administer their own machines. I tried downloading the software from Agfa, but it turned out to be exactly the same. I tried to find someone with the Administrator password to their machine, but I couldn't find anyone. I'll see if I can find a friend to do it. I have friends with ADSL, and I have friends who run Windows, but I'm not sure if I have friends who do both.
Scanner prices
Why is it that the scanner I want costs AU$350 in Australia, when in the US it costs the equivalent of AU$130? And why won't anyone in America ship to Australia? It's a conspiracy.
Performance review
I had my "annual" performance review at work today. It went as expected. This was hardly a surprise, since there was a directive from management that the results weren't allowed to differ from the interim performance reviews that we did several months ago. I'm not sure that I understand why we do them twice, but I'm sure there's logic in there somewhere.
Holidays
When my December payslip came out, it showed I had 14.1 days of holidays accrued. We get 20 days a year, or 1.7 days per month. I used three days over the Christmas break. One would therefore think that my January payslip would show 12.8 days. Instead it shows 17.5 days. I don't understand it at all. But I'm very happy with it, and I'm now less reluctant to put in my leave request for 30 days in March/April.
Business cards
I was finally given some business cards today, after a few months of waiting. Typically, they've spelt my email address incorrectly. I've therefore requested a new email alias.
