Recommendations on vitamins, anyone?

So I've been taking Centrum Performance ("For the Vitality of Your Mind & Body") for a few weeks now. I'm not sure if it's doing all the advertising blitzes say it'll do, but I feel a bit more energetic and am able to focus a lot easier than before. Of course, that may be due in part to working out a bit more. They taste like those old Flintstone vitamins that my parents used to force feed me.

Can anyone recommend a decent vitamin, suite of vitamins, or magical tablet that'll help with memory?

Insert standard gazbo-rant by gazbo (3.00 / 0) #1 Fri Dec 05, 2003 at 01:56:29 AM EST
Virtually nobody needs supplemental vitamins, and taking a glut of them has not been shown to have any benefit.

Of course, this rant is most commonly directed at just vitamin C, but I figure: hey - why not branch out.

Also, I'm aware that I managed to entirely avoid it becoming a rant at all.

If you have a good diet, by blixco (3.00 / 0) #3 Fri Dec 05, 2003 at 01:58:32 AM EST
you definitely don't need a metric fuckload of vitamins.

I take a gram of vitamin C a day, and I find that my allergies are damn near gone.  Just for that, it's worth it.

Well, that and the bright yellow urine.

My diet sucks, though, as I'm on a protein-heavy diet, low carbs, no fruit.

Depends. by blixco (3.00 / 0) #2 Fri Dec 05, 2003 at 01:57:02 AM EST
Depends on a lot of factors.  Do you smoke?  Drink?  Have headaches?  Get enough sleep?

For smartdug type things, I recently wrote a diary about them, here.  I will say that my focus was really really good whiel on them, but my focus wasn't easy to control.  I'd be working on a Thing, then my mind would wander, I'd remember some Gilligan's Island episode, and I'd obsess of creating a radio from a coconut for like an hour or five.

No! by blixco (3.00 / 0) #5 Fri Dec 05, 2003 at 02:15:19 AM EST
They're smart drugs.  Hydergine and piracetma, specifically.

I couldn't get my mind to latch onto stuff like that with more, shall we say, illicit substances.
