Rousseau and Marie not withstanding…

So, last night Welsh Girl and I went out to Smithville for a cake tasting.  The baker Welsh Girl really wanted was booked up for our weekend and recommended this lady to us.  We were both impressed.  The lady was professional and to the point and yet warm and friendly at the same time.  The cake types were really good as was the icings and fillings.  For those of you who have never been to one of these, they have lots of icings and fillings and cake types and you basically mix and match until you find the taste combinations that you like best.  So we did and they were pretty good.  But nothing (in my humble opinion) came close to the Mexican vanilla cake.  Along with the butter cream icing, we found a winner.  Then came the groom's cake.  I had something quite specific envisioned…  I wanted one shaped like an Omega Destroyer from Babylon 5.  I showed it to the cake lady and, after puzzling over it for a little bit, realized she couldn't do it.  She recommended me to another lady in Anderson Mill (way, way North Austin) who she thought might possibly be able to do it, but basically said that this was really Ace of Cakes type stuff.  After a little thought, I went to Plan B (a hastily crafted one made on the fly after remembering memorable images and credit sequences) which is more like this.  Much easier and will cost much less than the projected combined catering bill.  It will be bavarian chocolate and more butter cream icing, but it will be awesome.  Best thing is that both cakes will cost just over $450 and will serve a projected 175.  That's way cheaper than I had expected.

We've been planning to actually put money on rings.  We've gotten fitted, look at styles and what we want and all that crap, but we just haven't given them money.  I think I'm going to take care of mine this weekend.  If I do, maybe Welsh Girl will go take care of hers, too.

So, thus far, I have been failing my crappy semi-resolutions.  I decided, instead of making resolutions for the new year, to make some guidelines to follow.  Thus far, I have not started reading more because I haven't opened the new book I'm carrying with me, I have not painted because I'm looking for a desk to use as a new painting area, I have not done any exercise because it's cold as fuck all the last 2 days, I haven't avoided fast food because we had to eat something far from home with little time before the cake tasting.  At least I haven't had had any soda.  Haven't actually had a real meal to eat a little less of when I eat.  Basically, I'd like to lose 10-20 lbs in the lead up to the wedding.  It's possible, I'm just not getting an auspicious start.  At least I'm writing more about it…

Lastly, a thought for my big, fat, disagreeable coworker: I'm sorry that someone has been parking in your space for the last few days, forcing you to park on the roof, but that doesn’t mean it's my job to move your car to your spot now that they're gone.  I know that you have trouble moving and all that, but it's still not my job so stop asking.  I might have been more willing if you were more pleasant.  I would certainly have been more willing if the inside of your car didn't make me want to vomit.  And no, that's not a commentary on the messy nature of your car.  The one time I rode in your car, I actually had to force myself to not heave because of the smell.  How you drive it without doing so is a mystery to me.  Thank you.  Have a nice day.

I guess that's it for now.  More as it comes along…

That is all.
