If you are a major investor in a company, and want to dump that crummy stock onto an unsuspecting investing public, what do you do? Talk it up? or trash another area that is competing for investor dollars?

If you are the Australian Teasurer, you interfere in the market by doing both.

AUSTRALIA'S longest serving Treasurer, Peter Costello, took the rare step of dispensing investment advice to local investors yesterday. He warned them not to rely too heavily on hot resource stocks because the minerals boom would inevitably come to an end.

This comes just weeks before the Government decides if the market can stomach the sale of its 52 per cent stake in Telstra - which Mr Costello labelled a "shocking investment" just two weeks ago.

The Government will be relying heavily on Australian investors to front up and buy more of the stock they acquired at $7.40 a share in the T2 selldown - nearly double its current price.

Telstra's stock price went up on the Treasurer's dissing.

Australian cities and religion

A graph of how religious the major Australian cities are. In Sydney the major religions are; Catholic (29.6%), Anglican (19.3), no religion (11.6), not stated (11.4), Buddhism (3.9), Islam (3.5), Presbyterian (3.2) and Greek orthodox (2.9).

How unreligious are the Australian cities? The city of churches, Adelaide, leads the pack with 21% having no stated religion. That number excludes those that thought the question n/a (another 12% or so). So it is genuinely non-practicing a-religious folks.
