I agree with the general sentiment by TheophileEscargot (4.00 / 9) #1 Mon Jul 13, 2015 at 03:28:48 PM EST
Meanwhile in local politics, a local businessman lent £10,000 to a homeless alcoholic, Mumbling Bob, who hangs around the shops here. When he started worrying about the loan, he then sold the IOU to the local council where a few of his golfing buddies are councillors. Now the council are worried about the loan, and keep having endless meetings about how they're going to get the money off Mumbling Bob. Everybody's so furious at Mumbling Bob I can tell you! Fortunately it looks like they have a plan, they're going to force Mumbling Bob to sober up and shave and get a job, and if he doesn't they're going to sell his kidneys. So it looks like everything will be fine and justice will be served after all.

Except that the plan was always to sell his kidneys.

Moral entanglement by marvin (4.00 / 2) #3 Mon Jul 13, 2015 at 08:32:16 PM EST
I have read that a lot of blame could be laid at the feet of the banksters, particularly Goldman Sachs for some, uh, creative accounting help over the past decade or so. I would hazard a guess that many firms in the City have profited, or had their losses covered by the public.

So is there any Greek blood on that Porsche in your garage?

That Germany and France have a problem with democracy?

Greece is like the Detroit of Europe. Detroit has an elected mayor but he's basically powerless and a state appointed manager runs the place. That's not very democratic but that's what happens when you're bankrupt.

yes, but at least... by gzt (4.00 / 1) #7 Tue Jul 14, 2015 at 05:31:06 PM EST
...it's not a manager appointed by, say, ohio or worse ontario.
