I can't say the experience traumatized me. In fact, I may retire there.

That since all sides hate the BBC, they've clearly fulfilled the 'balanced coverage' remit.

Quick question: by wumpus (4.00 / 1) #19 Tue Nov 19, 2013 at 08:48:44 AM EST
If the BBC isn't the "best broadcasting company in the world", who is? I've heard that the US exports plenty of such stuff, but is noticeably worse than the Beeb. I suspect that such claims count as faint praise.

If you work for certain arms of the State, they may force you to carry a Blackberry, which I think counts as cruel and unusual punishment.

Wrong comparison by lm (2.00 / 0) #27 Thu Nov 21, 2013 at 10:09:08 PM EST
... the question is not whether or not the state forces you to buy an Apple computer but whether or not the state forces you to pay taxes which go, in part, to fun Apple computer.

Or am I wrong on that?

If I'm not, the Apple scenario certainly seems different than the case of the BBC. OTOH, the US has its own publicly funded broadcasting efforts.

Not sure why the obsession by Herring (2.00 / 0) #6 Sun Nov 17, 2013 at 05:36:20 PM EST
with the BBC covering up for kiddy fiddlers. Thatcher was just as guilty if not more so.

That said, the BBC News coverage at the moment is total shit. There is loads of stuff they should be taking the government to task for but post-Hutton they seem to have no balls at all.

Today on R4 by Merekat (4.00 / 2) #11 Mon Nov 18, 2013 at 06:59:55 AM EST
Today, Today made it sound as if Google only blocked kiddy porn because Cameron told them to. I think I might need my eyebrow surgically resituated after that one.

I had the doc this morning so was driving in late while Woman's Hour was on. They had a bloke from CEOP explain that all Cameron/Google/MS had done was some pointless political posturing that would, in practise, make fuck-all difference. I don't think the BBC journo quite expected that.

The recent "deleted documents" debacle shows how much grasp the average politician has of the intertubes.

Going to a march == political action? by lm (2.00 / 0) #10 Mon Nov 18, 2013 at 06:50:28 AM EST
If you say so. Seems more like bread and circuses to me.

So are you saying that ... by lm (2.00 / 0) #14 Mon Nov 18, 2013 at 03:45:44 PM EST
... if not a single person changed his or her mind because of your presence, that it was a waste of your time?

I wasn't planning to go there but if that's the way you feel, I won't try to dissuade you.

I was more observing that the nature of the activity isn't what I would consider to be political.
