Who doesn't like Chomsky :) I agree with a lot of what he says but don't like the way he arrives at it. (Admittedly I haven't read that much, I read a few articles by him and gave up). I think he is intellectually dishonest and cherry picks information to back up his arguments.

Also, in the 1970s he disputed accounts of the Khmer Ruoge genocide because they didn't fit in with his ideas about socialist self-determination in the developing world. He has never admitted to being wrong on this and skirts around the subject when asked. I think this is akin to Holocaust denial.

I'm interested in reading some of his work on language and seeing if it's more rigorous than his writing on politics.

It's political correctness gone mad!

Is the work of a mathematician analyzing human syntax.

Computer scientists (NLP folks) hate it, because it doesn't give them accurate models.

Linguists have a love-hate relationship with it, because it provides a solid research framework, but at the same time, restricts possible innovations (as paradigms tend to do).

He does, yeah. I think his main political goal is the preservation of human life - and when he applies this logically, meaning all human lives have equal value, it sends most people into a venomous rage, including a lot of people on the left in wealthy countries. I think that makes him more honest than most. For most people politics is just a fashion statement.
