from someone who's never entered a PFC.

Wait for November, with a deadline of late in the month or early December. WFC closes in late October, and MFC in mid-November. Too much after early December and people start being on vacation or holiday-stressed, so that would push you to January.

The more general the PFC theme is, it seems, the better -- I think each variety of *FC has to find its sweet spot for the kind of theme that's just suggestive enough but not too restrictive. PFCs seem to take wide-open themes really well.

We need more entries. by debacle (2.00 / 0) #2 Mon Oct 22, 2007 at 09:16:09 AM EST
The only way that will happen is if we set the bar lower. Allowing folks like LinDze and the like into the PFCs only means that regular people say "Eh, fuck it." and don't even bother.

Im incredibly lazy and therefore unlikely to actually enter anything. Also, when i do enter, its at the last possible minute.

PFC Thoughts by LinDze (4.00 / 1) #4 Tue Oct 23, 2007 at 11:34:57 AM EST
Watch the timing with other PFCs and holiday/busy times. Make sure theres plenty of room between start and close, like 30-60 days. Post a warning notice 2 weeks (and 1 week?) before the close deadline. Dont forget to hassle people in #husi or in diary/holiarys. Personally i always think "next week", then time runs out.

With regards to theme I think people just have an easier time with landscape/abstracts. Also a wide open them like "cold" allows everyone to shoot what they want but holds the group together.
