maybe a personal question by sasquatchan (4.00 / 1) #1 Mon Mar 26, 2007 at 12:47:26 PM EST
but why "my" debt and not "our" debt ? Regardless of who incurred it, as a couple, I'd call it "our" debt..

We don't talk about money enough by georgeha (4.00 / 1) #2 Mon Mar 26, 2007 at 12:51:20 PM EST
it triggers unpleasant memories of Mrs. Ha's childhood, so, dysfunctionally, I've haven't been as forthcoming about our financial situation, and she hasn't asked. It's our debt, though I ran it up, and I'll end up paying it off. We are starting to talk about it more, but it takes a long time to recover from a bad childhood.

I personally think that it's best... by leviramsey (4.00 / 1) #16 Mon Mar 26, 2007 at 02:38:55 PM EST

...for spouses to keep their respective financial affairs as separate as possible.

The same logic can be extended to other affairs as well, but that is neither here nor there.

I couldn't disagree strongly enough.

No argument here, because it would devolve into what marriage means and where you and I come from. But if people want to keep things from their spouse, they have no business being married. (yeah, sure, keep your cheerleader-nun sex fantasies to yourself, but to keep your finances to yourself, no, wrong.)

But I agree sorta, I mean if he died tomorrow, what a shock it'd be in 3 months time when all the debt and stuff is just there.

Unsecured just means that they don't have as high a creditor ranking when the estate is settled. So Mrs Ha would receive less than she otherwise might.

True... by leviramsey (2.00 / 0) #38 Mon Mar 26, 2007 at 08:10:10 PM EST

My original dictum is meant to be a rule of thumb and; it should be broken only with careful consideration. While the incorporation thing may seem extreme, by placing a barrier would tend to ensure some level of careful consideration.

Further, depending on how the incorporated entity is structured, one owner need not bear any liability for the other's actions.

The Stranglers (so I don't like punk that much, so sue me)

You need an new orthodontist. That's an insane price.

Spike Lee seems to specialise in non-gripping films. I'm known for my appreciation of uneventful art films and I've struggled to get through most Spike Lee productions.

Debt is annoying. I'm basically finally debt free, only I'm also income free, so that's likely to change the equation again.

Get a second opinion - if they're just for slight cosmetic problems they probably aren't necessary. I'm convinced 1/2 of the Hawaiian tourist industry would collapse if orthodontia were to be reserved for just the necessary cases.

Also, maybe you could look for a better price? After all, that's W's solution - just shop around!

And in a LIAD twist, I was into metal in the early 80's, when Ozzy was dangerous and not a loveable sitcom dad.

Shoot, I forgot the plasmatics by georgeha (4.00 / 1) #15 Mon Mar 26, 2007 at 02:38:51 PM EST
the first two tapes I really, really, really played on my faux walkman (loud enough to hear over the push mower) were Never Mind the Bullocks and the Plasmatics. They were my first punk, aside from the Slam Set, a half hour a week of punk from the local college radio station (WITR) as a sophomore in high school. Ah, 1981.

Dangit, I should buy a Repo Man DVD, maybe when I get paid.

That's very kind of you.

Of course I'm far too modest to speak about their success as I realize many people who post here may, by pure happenstance, have been rooting for one of the less fortunate teams who have fallen by the wayside and I have only the deepest respect for their fragile feelings.

In fact I would like to now come forward and tell all of you who may have suffered a crushing defeat that it's not whether you win or lose, it's how you play the game that matters, and you can be real proud that your team did the very best they could.

Now go forward and hold your heads high and don't worry as I'm sure you'll get em next year!

Warmest regards,
--Your best pal Bob
