Food of the gods.

How can you run for office with a position like that?

I don't eat aquatic bugs either.  Someone needs to hold higher standards.  It's simply not right for human beings to eat so low on the food chain.

Paying that much for anything you plan on shitting out eventually is insane.

Also, I have no WIPO.

Or, if you're in the mood for really expensive, try buying a pound of saffron strands.

I've never seen truffles in a food store, though.

you don't really eat saffron. At least not like mushrooms or truffles. It's a flavouring.

mmmm, morels. by toxicfur (4.00 / 1) #5 Mon Feb 12, 2007 at 05:26:02 PM EST
I've actually been keeping my eyes out for dried morels, but I haven't seen any in our regular grocery stores.

WIPO: Saffron, which is usually around $1,000/lb.

Define "edible" by ucblockhead (4.00 / 1) #12 Mon Feb 12, 2007 at 07:14:35 PM EST
Some people cook with gold leaf...though I don't know if something that just inertly passes through your digestive system counts as "edible".

redeeming culinary value.

Gold is just decorative. You could eat marbles and ball bearings too, but those wouldn't count either.

The verdict is not in on paste.

Counting booze? by yicky yacky (4.00 / 1) #18 Mon Feb 12, 2007 at 08:32:15 PM EST

A 1937 Glenfiddich will set you back £10,000 which, using the rates used thus far, works out at £422.48($822.96) per fl.oz (US).

There are some pretty pricey wines and other liquor as well (although this one seems to be more about the bottle).

I forgot about that, too.

Beluga is illegal in the US, so you wouldn't be able to get it here.

ban on foie gras?

[ Parent ]

I don't think so by ad hoc (4.00 / 1) #25 Tue Feb 13, 2007 at 06:06:24 PM EST
Fois gras is a "humanitarian" concern.

The caviar ban is because Beluga Sturgeon is a threatened species.

But reading that, it's not illegal to have it, it's illegal to import it from the Caspian Sea. If you have sturgeon you imported before 2005, you can harvest caviar from them. But all of those permits expire in April 2007, so there won't be any after that, though existing stocks may be sold within your won state. (Yeesh! Two year old fish eggs?!?!?!)

$15 per gramme is not unreasonable for good saffron (that's easily more expensive than gold).

Seeing as this is Husi though, I feel I must mention pie.

[ Parent ]

Granted, it's arbitrary by ad hoc (2.00 / 0) #29 Sat Feb 24, 2007 at 10:03:39 AM EST
but I sort dismissed saffron since you don't really sit down and eat a plate of saffron.

That sounds like an awesome pie!
