Nintendo has in the past arranged shipments so retailers get more pretty quick. And with thanksgiving coming up (and the all important shopping), that seems even more likely.

The local gamespot people didn't now when they were getting more consoles, but they were getting more games and controllers on monday and tuesday, so....

the people who bought them to flip them should have lined up for a ps3. The wii's are selling on ebay for between 280 and 380, and about half of those didn't meet whatever reserve these guys set to begin with.

is about the only one where you can get away with it. I'm hoping I catch one of these fools with an auction without a reserve and I get it for less than retail.
that's not working out yet, the cheapest I've seen so far has been 275, with the average somewhere around 330 or so.

We had one of those and an original Nintendo when I was a kid.

I stil have working 8-bit Nintendo that I use quite frequently.

It sits in a box with the leads worn down (I think that's all it would take to fix it given that it turns on and sometimes plays games after much blowing). But the wii now tempts me to pay $5 for old games and not have to bother. :(

Pong. This was some sort of pong knock-off that allowed four-player play. Included most of the basic pong games (pong, hockey, jai lai, practice). Switched to computer games with the atari 400 and never went back.

Since the PS3 costs $500 minimum and they're sure to "obsolete" it in a couple years, the PS3 is getting crazy expensive. One could easily spend $800-900 on PS3 (with extra controllers, and games) right away (2-3 extra controllers, 2-3 games plus tax). You can't buy a new (gaming) computer for that, but you could easily upgrade one. :)

To upgrade my current game machine, I need a new motherboard/CPU (Core 2 duo) new graphics card and new memory. I'd probably also want to get a new RAID 0 setup. I think I can save the case, though.

My wife and I both play computer games, but our machines are previous-era, mid-to-low spec at the time. Nearly everything would have to go: motherboard, CPU, RAM, videocard. Heck, we'd probably need new powersupplies. About the only things we could keep would be the drives and the case. At about $500/machine (and that's pretty budget right there), it's a LOT cheaper to just buy a Wii, spare controllers, a new wireless router, and a bunch of games.

a number of GC games that I missed out on this last generation, but I couldn't justify buying one because I already had a PC with enough games. I tend to enjoy PC games quite a bit, but having not owned a console since the Sega Genesis, I imagine that having any console will be quite the novelty.

This way, I can also play games in the living room, while bunnies cavort across the carpet and frolic at my feet.

I did get a PSP, and I do enjoy the novelty, but no games for that have the depth of my favorite PC games (things like Civ4, Rise of Nations, Counterstrike etc.) I also find FPS-type games hard to control without a full keyboard.

Am very tempted to buy a Wii next year when things have settled down a bit. Actually, that's a lie. Very tempted to buy one in December when they arrive in EU, but my rational brain is overriding me for the moment...

Let us know how the games are. I'm considering buying one as well, but I'd be more interested in Wii Sports (particularly golf and boxing) and Super Monkey Ball.

This is strange as normally I would have preferred a PS3, but I don't have time anymore for all the long drawn out games that require learning how to play via tutorials. Lately, I've mostly used my PS2 as a SNES emulator for Super Mario World, Actraiser, Final Fight, and Chrono Trigger.

Haven't touched wii sports yet. Sports games were never my thing.
Excepting Zelda, I'm pretty much limited to games I can just pick up and play. Level-based games or "party" games, etc. After playing some of the party games on SMB, I'm thinking that when they put out a Mario Party it out to be pretty fun.

Probably has something to do with my parents' refusal to buy me an Atari 2600. They got me a TI99/4A instead, which was far superior as a gaming platform, and also had a built-in BASIC interpreter.

This made gaming MUCH easier than typing source code from BYTE magazine into my Sinclair ZX-80 (and saving it to audio cassette).

CoCo (Color computer). I doubt the TRS-80s had cartridge slots (but didn't have one to be sure). If it connected to a TV or had color (and came from a Radio Shack) it was a CoCo.

unless you liked lines. Austin was one of Nintendos "premier party" cities, so there was a lot of knowledge. Even Sears had a line at 7am, apparently.

I'll wait a month or so...or less, as the guy at Sears (I was there to buy compressor parts and, if they had one, a Wii) indicated they'd get a hundred or so in in the next couple of weeks.

I'm really looking forward to it. Especially once they port Animal Crossing to it.
