As you may know by now, each round of WFC I pick a handful of stories (including mine, unidentified) to pass on to D for his reading pleasure. This round, he picked "Modesty" and "Mont Blanc" as the ones he liked, though he said he wasn't sure which was mine.

When I revealed who wrote which, he was (a) relieved that mine was one of the ones he picked (I was too), and (b) said something to the effect of, he'd have been impressed if "Modesty" had been mine, because it has a depth of feeling you don't tend to get in my stories. Something along the lines of, I hint at the depths while this story brings the reader right down into it. Also, he liked the transformation that happens in the course of the story, so I guess log another vote for "death worked as it was." Make that two votes, along with mine.

I loved the middle section of the story, too, for a slightly lighter tone; vintage ana, very well done.

I'm glad D liked my story (and I'm also glad he liked yours).

this was by far my favorite. It was sad, especially so for the ending, but it really worked, and like Kellnerin, I think you did an amazing job with showing the depth of the emotions.
