Since there were no visible bruises and I didn't notice that my ankle was fucked until the next day (despite not actually being that drunk). IIRC, I think I took three blows to the face (and stumbled over) due to surprise, then blocked the rest until he left.

This gets me: all these religious organisations get tax relief (charity status). The NSS has applied for charity status and been refused. Religious organisations can start schools to indoctrinate kids (and make parents pretend to be religious to get their kids in). Secular organisations can't.

As I tried to post on the BBC "have your say" thing: if I tried to get government funding for a neo-nazi school which would teach kids that "jews are evil" and "homosexuality is evil" I would be told to fuck off. If I were representing a large mosque and wanted to do the same thing then the story would be quite different.

The main thing is, I cannot comprehend that we (meaning the taxpayers) are funding schools in the UK - an "enlightened" European country - that teach that ID/creationism is even in the same ballpark as a proper scientific theory.

Even 10 years ago, nobody would've dreamt of such a thing. Now people just lie back and accept it. There is something very wrong in the world.

In Zurich, corporations are forced to pay church tax - individuals can opt out, but companies are apparently not subject to human rights laws. I nearly fell out of my chair when I saw the line on my corporate tax bill. It remains one of the very few cases of real injustice I can think of in Switzerland. The populace couldn't care less.

A Jewish businessman here who runs a Jewish business and objected to supporting Christian churches apparently went all the way to the European Court of Human Rights, who told him to STFU. WTF?

The church (building) and the church (organisation) (See Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance). Churches - such as the local one to which my parents subscribe can be architecturally and historically very important.

The tax goes to the organisation (actually the catholic and protestant churches split it up).

Don't even get me started about churches (organisation) who collect church taxes and have their churches (buildings) renovated with non-church tax money.

I were able to get a rip of the program about my parent's church (see diary text) then it might be interesting to some.
In 1984, they discovered that the stained glass windows were falling apart. It's quite a thing - the windows were orignally finished in 1509 (church was finished 1497) and they have been raising money and restoring them for over 20 years now. Mostly charity money, not state funding - despite these being the only complete collection of medieval stained glass windows ... at all. Important to keep them - plus if you see the West Window in the late afternoon, you'll appreciate that it is a real work of art.

You can get a dirt-cheap adapter that splits the signal into video, and L/R audio. You can plug those into a dirt-cheap capture board.

You're right about the Labour loans thing. It's sad because Labour were the last party you'd expect from - seeing the dirty tricks the Lib Dems use in council elections I bet they'd be a nightmare for corruption in government.
