McCain and Powell by cam (6.00 / 1) #1 Tue Jul 06, 2004 at 09:50:49 AM EST
... are good examples why old soldiers do not make good politicians. They have bizarre ideas of loyalty to a person rather than an ideal, they are also happier being subservient to an authority that "asks" them to do something. Powell should have retired when he was asked to make the UN speech. He wont be the first black president now.

Generalisations are bad Mr. Cam.

When I read that, I thought that his statements could apply to John Kerry, Wesley Clark, or a number of others as well.

However it is true that the military does grind in loyalty and acceptance of hierarchical authority. Both McCain and Powell fit that bill in some of their dealings with the Executive. If McCain had been President, as Kerry and Clark were both presumptively persuing, that wouldnt be an issue as there is noone higher than the President in the US.

I dont see any other way to explain Powell's UN speech and McCains campaigning for Bush. "Because Bush asked" isnt a good enough answer for me. Powell lied to the world on flimsy and downright bullshit evidence. McCain is shilling for an immoral, flawed and incompetent President.

Who, if any, will make a stand?

but it's certainly not the Democratic Party.

If you're going to be angry with anyone, you should focus your attention upon the DNC, for fielding a bunch of pathetic idiots.

It is the Bush Administration that is acting on the beleif that their power is absolute, that their privilege is absolute and that they do not have to follow the Constitution, Bill of Rights or even basic morals of human decency. There is no difference here to despotism and tyranny.

Congress and the Judicial have both failed to keep the Executive's power in check. The judicial in particular should have stamped down many of the bullshit decisions like the denial of habeous corpus already.

It is pathetic. So much for a Madisonian Republic.

So, why not vote for Nader? by Rogerborg (3.00 / 0) #2 Tue Jul 06, 2004 at 09:55:11 AM EST
Diebold will ensure that your vote for Kerry isn't counted anyway.

Also, it's a bit rich for one of you sombrero wearing seal clubbers to be using deliberately incorrect ethnic slurs.

I actually want to see Spiderman 2. by MohammedNiyalSayeed (3.00 / 0) #3 Tue Jul 06, 2004 at 10:39:12 AM EST

And not because of the numbers, either. Good to hear it is enjoyable. I thought the first one was fun.

You can build the most elegant fountain in the world, but eventually a winged rat will be using it as a drinking bowl.

I was picking on you after your diary about F9/11, but enough of that topic. If you liked the first, you should like the second better, as long as you can get past the angst. I think it's called Emo or something, but just about everyone cries. However, other than that you can see Spiderman get his motivation to keep fighting, and there is more of a reason for Doc Ock to become a bad guy than the previous bad guy. Plus, the CGI is a little better, although still not up to modern standards. Bruce Campbell also makes another appearance, but as an asshole ticket guy which marks one of two or three funny scenes in the movie. I'm just waiting for him to be Ash and fight Spiderman. That would be hilarious.

Bag of dicks by blixco (5.50 / 6) #4 Tue Jul 06, 2004 at 10:44:32 AM EST
pretty useful, circumstantially.  For instance, say you've been air-dropped into a hostile Amazonian (in the 1950's B movie sense) jungle, with nothing but your socks, your wits, and a bag of dicks.

Now suppose you were set upon by a tribe of humongo B-movie amazonian princesses with their minds set on making you into one of them, ie turning you from castrano to castrato.  Because these six foot tall amazonia princesses hates the men, see?  They hates 'em with a firey amazonian passion.

So they surround you, your helpless member, and your ....great googly!  Your bag of dicks!

Using clever subterfuge and sleight of hand, you manage to unburdon the bag of precisely one (very generous, I might add) stand-in dick for the machete and corn whiskey ceremony.  You attach said naughty bit to your naught bits via the clever use of amazon jungle slime (found in vast abundance until the 1960s, at which time ravenous McCows ate most of it, creating a huge market for McRibs).  The head six foot tall amazonian princess signals her minions to pin your arms down and belly you up to the bar, so to speak.  They flop your member out (to an array of gasps) and admire it's heft, girth, and completely different skin color.

Then the lead princess, she raises her machete and swack cuts that pseudojohnson straight in two, and you (on cue and with much gusto) wail and scream like a girl, then run for the jungle.  They don't bother to pursue, since the belief is that you will bleed to death any second now and they'd be right were it not for your bag of dicks.

You eventually stumble across an encampment of dead folks who originally were headed out on a three hour boat ride but ended up stranded for fifty years.  The coconut radio comes in handy, and your years of improvised electonics training turns it from a receiver to a simple encrypted four channel mil-spec transmitter and daqueri maker.  With a tired voice, you call an airstrike, covering the heads of the amazonian bitches with liquid fire.  You drink to their memory, and eventually befriend the monkeys.

Years pass, things change, you end up living in Kansas.  But the bag of dicks never leaves your side....

It all depends on the circumstances, ya know?

Did you see by ad hoc (3.00 / 0) #5 Tue Jul 06, 2004 at 10:44:46 AM EST
the Washington DC 4th concert thing? I felt like I was at a revival meeting. Sure, Boston had a geriatric David Lee Roth, but you weren't allowed into DC without a robe and collar. Frankly, I was surprized Benny Hinn wasn't on stage.

Also, a bag of dicks isn't useless.

I didn't watch anything on TV that night, but I think I saw the previews, if that was the thing that Bush attended. That looked sickening enough to me.

Bush/Cheney. by dev trash (6.00 / 2) #16 Tue Jul 06, 2004 at 05:32:12 PM EST
They must be afraid, Cheney was in my COUNTY for a Minor league ball game on the 4th.  We're a 98% Republican county.  He tossed the first pitch out and didn't fall over.  So rumours of a 'health reason' for him dropping out of the race are so far false.

McCain by jimgon (6.00 / 1) #19 Wed Jul 07, 2004 at 05:59:34 AM EST
McCain sold out in 2000.  Since I hadn't heard much of him before that I can't say if he sold out before 2000, but definitely did it in that year.
