Incidentally, is FreeAmp still around? I used it briefly four years or so back, and found it frustrating to use at the time. So I used XMMS instead, which wasn't exciting and creatively different from Winamp, but worked and didn't require use of advanced logic processes to to figure out its interface.

the absolute dumbest marketing idea I've ever heard.
Far be it from me to be a pedant, but if you're going to have some form of numerical naming convention for tracking of releases, then it would make sense to go in the most orderly of fashions instead of operating in this "Highest = Best!" ideal. Otherwise they might as well call it Winamp2004 or WinampXP and it would make no difference... ooh... wait...

I use Winamp at work, though.
I work in the same office as the Sony Audio CD group. You can bet they have damn good equipment to listen to at work. Sadly, they rarely share.
