re: hiking boots, I like a decent pair of workboots. They're well built, and made to be comfortable all day. I find modern thinsulate boots breathe quite well.
If you lace them all the way up they do provide a bit of ankle support.
I kind of suspected that the fiddleheads were just about right on Monday when I first saw them, but, like I said, I didn't want to start picking things on state land.
