it wasn't all that surprising, I suppose. I was quite angry, though. My mom wasn't at all sympathetic to the cry that it was unfair, though -- life isn't fair, she reminded us again and again. What she didn't tell me is that sometimes life isn't fair in my favor. That one was a surprise.
