A 114 year old woman just died over the weekend by theboz (2.00 / 0) #28 Mon Mar 24, 2008 at 11:55:18 AM EST
While you and I probably won't live to that age, it is possible, and that sort of thing helps me put some perspective on it.  I was born in 1977, that woman was born in 1894.  She was around during the life of Queen Victoria, for example.  She lived during the time of the Ottoman Empire and saw it end when she was nearly thirty.  When she was thirty, Vladmir Lenin died.  Imagine all the things that happened between Lenin's death and now.  Transpose the years of your life so far, and imagine how much things can change in the future, and all the new experiences you can have.

While I am not really happy with getting older by MisterQueue (2.00 / 0) #29 Mon Mar 24, 2008 at 12:35:11 PM EST
I certainly know that 114 would be far too many years for me, I wonder if at the end she actually wanted more time or merely thought, "It is enough".

Having seen older people who didn't take care of themselves much (much like myself), I am thinking it will be enough for me somewhere in my 60's, but we'll see how that goes.  Hopefully, as you mention, the blur of events will be interesting as it passes me by.

It shone, pale as bone,
As I stood there alone.
