And yes, I often find the choices of my government embarrassing.  That said, I can't think of anything of the top of my head that was such an obvious and transparent lie, maintained for so long.  All the conspiracy theory stuff about Iraq and what have you, it's all, well debatable, and clouded in mystery, to an extent.  Usually when a minister gets caught out as a liar they quickly lose their position of authority.
