$450 for a freakin' cake?!?! by miker2 (2.00 / 0) #1 Thu Jan 03, 2008 at 03:57:55 PM EST
Makes me so happy my chick is very, very low-maintenance and wants a very simple, very inexpensive wedding.

$450 for enough cake to feed 175 people? by webwench (2.00 / 0) #2 Thu Jan 03, 2008 at 04:06:26 PM EST
That's not bad, actually.

It does help explain why those of us who do this stuff more than once like to elope for subsequent weddings, though.

I got mine for $20 by joh3n (2.00 / 0) #4 Thu Jan 03, 2008 at 05:27:19 PM EST
From the lady in town who made cakes for fun.  Best wedding cake I ever had.

for my first wedding by StackyMcRacky (2.00 / 0) #5 Thu Jan 03, 2008 at 06:42:09 PM EST
we paid about that, and the cake showed up totally f'd up.  the first layer was totally destroyed, and the cake itself looked like a 3rd-grader did it.  oh!  and the fillings were wrong and parts of the cake were frozen!  we learned she had baked it 5 days in advance and frozen it because at the last minute she had decided to go on vacation the weekend of my wedding but had already signed a contract with me a year in advance.

not cool, yo.

but the only way to do that was to go to court.  at the time, i didn't really feel up to it.

my wedding planner got the baker black-listed, so that was cool.
