"smart" quotes by Kellnerin (2.00 / 0) #2 Thu Jan 10, 2008 at 06:18:26 PM EST
It's all about the Auto-Correct and Auto Format As You Type nonsense. Boxes to uncheck. I'd tell you exactly where but that would involve opening up Word. Just be sure to click through all the tabs, because they show up in multiple places, you know, just in case you didn't really mean it when you said DON'T FUCKING MESS WITH WHAT I TYPE.

In isolated cases, if you want smart quotes most of the time but want, for example inch marks or primes in a particular place, hit Ctrl-Z immediately after you type the quote (and Word makes it smaht), and it will uncurl your punctuation. That is one of the most useful things anyone ever told me about Word.

Or just press backspace immediately after by ambrosen (2.00 / 0) #4 Thu Jan 10, 2008 at 06:44:29 PM EST
also, press Alt+Enter to put a line break in an Excel cell.

I think the woman whose PC I VNCed into to sort out the numbering in her document didn't learn so much about outline mode or outline numbering. Hmm, it's nice to be on helpdesk.

Tools: Options: AutoCorrect: kill the "Smart quotes" option
OR
