You sour old codger by Phage (2.00 / 0) #5 Thu Jun 07, 2007 at 10:17:20 AM EST
I think that a day off, and a few drinks with like minded people would do you a world of good. Are there any RL people around ?

A day off would be nice, but a life change is what's really needed. It's a waiting game for now...

I'd say you're being premature. I'm thinking I'll go at retirement just to piss off my creditors.

I picked up my new copy of Xenophon's Memorabilia by lm (2.00 / 0) #16 Thu Jun 07, 2007 at 10:41:33 AM EST
Yesterday I had opened it to a random page and read this remark about the trial and execution of Socrates:

As for his claim that he was forewarned by ``the deity'' what he ought to do and what not to do, some may think that it must have been a delusion because he was condemned to death. But they should remember two facts. First, he had already reached such an age, that had he not died then, death must have come to him soon after. Secondly, he escaped the most irksome stage of life and the inevitable diminution of mental powers, and instead won glory by the moral strength revealed in the wonderful honest and frankness and probity of his defence, and in the equanimity and manliness with which he bore the sentence of death.

There is no more degenerate kind of state than that in which the richest are supposed to be the best.
