Va Tech is a top uni in va by wiredog (4.00 / 1) #2 Fri Apr 20, 2007 at 12:18:23 PM EST
A friend of mine got her BS in nursing there. I partied there quite a bit. It's probably the top school in Va after UVa, but not nearly as exclusive. A liberal arts major there would probably do as well as he would at GMU (from which I was expelled, with a 0.0 GPA, in 1985). Just having "Va Tech" on the sheepskin is probably more valuable than "JMU" or "ODU".

Besides, Blacksburg is in a really pretty area of the state. The New River is right there, lots of mountains. rates very high on the feminine pulchritude scale, too.

I've mostly seen the I-95 corridor of VA by georgeha (4.00 / 1) #4 Fri Apr 20, 2007 at 12:25:12 PM EST
or within 40 miles of it. Around Manassas it got pretty, and the Norfolk area was pretty flat.

Whoa, freaky, pulchritude was the dictionary.com word of the day, 6 years ago on Monday (it was also an April 16th).

That brings up another point, if you can't snag a chick in a liberal arts program, you do have problems (says the engineering grad with a 6% girl ratio in his class).

I-81 corridor is much nicer by wiredog (2.00 / 0) #7 Fri Apr 20, 2007 at 12:40:12 PM EST
It goes down through the valleys.

That sounds vaguely familiar by georgeha (2.00 / 0) #15 Fri Apr 20, 2007 at 01:03:31 PM EST
I think one time, returning from grad school, I took a western expressway to bypass the hell of the Beltway that took me through West Virginia (for five minutes) and Maryland (for five minutes). It was long ago, my memories of the 80's are hazy.
