Much as I hate to say it, VB.net is a peice of piss coming from Delphi. It's just a question of syntax. You can think in Delphi and sit with a book and translate it into VB quick enough.

C# looks pretty similar as well.

Get some decent advanced .net books and you'll be laughing.

C# is probably going to feel my icy touch very soon...

I'm sure I can find some project or other that I can justify must be written in C# in the non too distant future.

Be sure to use absolutelty every feature of the language or at least as many as it is possible to fit into your app. You want this to be a good learning experience, and played correctly it can lead to job security if not for life, for a very long time...
